New vehicle technologies and emerging mobility services are reshaping how people and goods move. Our research examines this transition through three principal impact areas.
Infrastructure Adaptation
As vehicles become automated, connected, and electrified, the supporting infrastructure must evolve accordingly. Our research examines what cities should build, how such infrastructure should be priced and financed, and how these systems perform under stress.
Shared Economy
Carsharing, ride-sourcing, and on-demand delivery are among the most consequential mobility services of the past decade. Our research analyzes how the design of these platforms determines whether their benefits accrue to riders, drivers, and suppliers, or to the platform alone.
Logistics and Urban Delivery
E-commerce and on-demand services have made urban freight one of the most challenging problems facing modern cities. Our research designs delivery systems that move more goods at lower cost.
All three areas share a common methodological toolkit: equilibrium analysis, mixed-integer optimization, dynamic models, and game-theoretic market design.

The METRO Lab is recruiting two fully funded graduate students with backgrounds in transportation engineering, industrial engineering, or applied mathematics, and a strong interest in operations research applied to emerging mobility problems.
